Omaha’s New Recycling Drop-Off Site is Here!

Things are changing here at Garden + Home, and we couldn’t be more excited. Just as we’re about to begin a second phase of renovations, we’re happy to share that we’re now hosting a new recycling drop-off site in partnership with the City of Omaha. It’s all part of our vision to become a stronger community hub – for supporting a healthier planet and making Omaha a more beautiful and sustainable place to live. And there’s more in the works, rolling out later this year.

A big shout-out to our friends and sustainability advocates at Keep Omaha Beautiful for helping to make it happen!

Where to Drop Off Your Recyclables

If you live in an apartment without recycling pickup or need a place to drop off your glass, be sure to bring your recyclables along the next time you visit. Our new recycling drop-off site – open from dawn until dusk – is currently located in the southwest corner of our parking lot at 120th and Maple. Later this spring, you’ll see it move just south of our parking lot as renovations at our store continue.

What You Can Bring

As a full-service drop-off site, we have multiple containers for your recyclables. Just be sure to drop your items – unbagged and with cardboard boxes flattened – into the correct bin.

Items accepted in the purple bin are:

  • Glass bottles and jars of any color

Items accepted in the green bins include:

  • Aluminum and steel cans
  • Flattened cardboard
  • Cardboard food cartons
  • Clean paper products
  • Plastics with recycling numbers 1, 2, 3, or 5
  • Hefty® EnergyBags®

Anything accepted through Omaha’s curbside recycling program can go in a green bin. For a full list of accepted items, visit the City of Omaha’s Wasteline website.

For other plastics, consider using the Hefty® EnergyBag® program to divert harder-to-recycle plastics like plastic storage bags, foam food containers, grocery sacks, and cereal box liners from reaching the landfill too. Just bag them together in a dedicated orange Hefty® EnergyBag® – available at several local retailers – and toss your tightly tied EnergyBag® into the green bin along with your loose, mixed recyclables. Again, these are the only plastic bags that should be placed in the bins.

We’re In This With You

At the store, we’re updating how we collect our day-to-day waste too. In our breakroom and office spaces, we now have dedicated containers for a variety of recyclables, and we look forward to expanding our efforts as we keep working toward a more sustainable future for our city and our planet.

Let’s Work Together

As the interest in recycling grows in our community, we’re proud to support the City’s efforts to reduce the volume of materials dumped in our landfill – where valuable resources are wasted and cause further harm to our environment. The next time you visit, be sure to bring along your empty glass jars, bottles, and other recyclables to toss in the bins at our recycling hub. And thank you for helping us work toward a more beautiful and sustainable Omaha!
