Urban Forests

Choosing a tree is an exciting decision to make. When you plant a tree, not only are you providing shade and beauty to your own landscape, but you’re contributing to a broader urban forest and the incredible value it brings to our city and urban ecosystem.

In this seminar, Heather Byers of Great Plains Nursery will share tips for how to choose a tree for your outdoor space that can give the greatest contribution to our urban ecosystems. She’ll discuss some of her favorite trees for supporting beneficial insects, birds, and other wildlife. You’ll learn why native trees and diverse plantings create more sustainable landscapes. And Heather will share how early root-development is a key contributor to the ongoing health and longevity of a tree.
