Seed-Starting 101
Gardeners know there are lots of good reasons to grow a garden from seed. Maybe it’s getting that early start so you can taste the first homegrown tomato in your neighborhood each summer. Or planting a bigger garden without breaking the budget. Maybe it’s being able to grow that special kind of cucumber that’s the secret to your favorite homemade pickles. At the very least, it’s the chance to plant something as you anxiously wait for spring. Whatever your reason is, we hope you’ll join us as we cover everything you need to know about growing your own seeds.
Brittany Beyer, from The Big Garden, has years of experience starting her own seeds indoors each winter, and in this seminar, she’ll share her best tips and techniques for success. She’ll explain the importance of soil, water, and light for healthy and productive cultivation. She’ll show you the supplies you’ll need – including options you may already have at home – and how to set them up. She’ll help you navigate the information found on seed packets to determine how and when to start all the different vegetables, annuals, and perennials you have planned for this year’s garden. And, she’ll explain how to nurture the seedlings through the cold months, getting them ready to make the jump to the garden when the official growing season finally arrives.
