Plant to Give
Food security is a tough and ongoing challenge in our community. But you can help! Just plant a few more plants in your edible garden, and bring in the extra harvest to share.
In collaboration with Whispering Roots, we’re accepting donations of fresh produce from the garden, which will be turned into delicious and nutritious meals served at local shelters – or shared directly with dozens of underserved communities in our city. Drop off your extra produce Friday through Sunday during store hours. Whispering Roots will pick up the donated produce on Monday morning.
Some of the plants in greatest need include tomatoes, peppers, onions, cucumbers, squash, okra, herbs, and melons. But any kind of fresh produce not requiring immediate refrigeration will be accepted and put to good use!
Recommendations for sharing produce:
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the produce.
- Rinse the produce well with cool water – no soap or bleach – and allow it to dry.
- Transport the produce in clean containers and avoid letting the food touch other surfaces.
