Mums are the iconic fall plant. Their abundant blooms bring a whole range of warm colors to welcome the season – and they love chilly weather too. So the next few months are their time to shine in outdoor containers, harvest displays, and as simple centerpieces. Fall Color for Any Project
No matter how you plan to enjoy your mums this fall, we have an amazing collection of colors and sizes for any project. All your favorite colors are here – red, orange, bronze, yellow, purple, and white – in pots and baskets from four to fourteen inches. You might combine an eight-inch mum with tall grasses, flowering kale, and colorful coneflower in a beautiful container arrangement on your patio. If you’re putting together a fall-themed display, try setting a couple of fourteen-inch mums along with straw bales, pumpkins, and decorative gourds. And smaller mums make great centerpieces for fall get-togethers too.
Blooms for the Entire Season
Mums get their signal to bloom as the days get shorter leading into fall. But not all mums get this signal at the same time – some varieties bloom earlier in the season, some later. By carefully selecting the varieties we grow, we’re able to offer fresh, beautiful blooms starting as early as August and continuing through mid-November. You’ll find an array of fall colors in each group – including baskets featuring another new series, Igloo, in a combination of colors – and together, they create a continuous display of beautiful blooms throughout the whole season.
Grown at Our Own Farm
No matter what series they belong to or when they bloom, our mums share a few common traits – they’re sturdy, healthy, satisfyingly spherical, and absolutely loaded with buds ready to burst with color. Growing healthy, beautiful mums is a true passion project for the team of growers at our farm. Mums are some of the more challenging plants we grow – careful timing is everything with mums – but they’re also the most rewarding. In early June, the team plants thousands of tiny rooted mum cuttings into all the different pots. Then, the developing mums are carefully monitored, watered, and fertilized during the long wait between planting time and bud-break. For a peek at the process, head toward the back of the Greenhouse. There, you’ll see many of our larger and later blooming mums hooked to drip lines that give the precise water and fertilization needed to finish their development.
