Around here, we live for spring – and we know you’re just as excited as we are to get outside and welcome some warmer weather again. So, to kick off the season, we’re throwing an Earth Day celebration! We hope you’ll join us on Saturday, April 21st, from 11am to 2pm – for live music, delicious food and refreshments, and a few fun and spring-inspired activities we think you’ll enjoy.
Live Music by Twinsmith
To help us celebrate, we’ve invited Omaha band Twinsmith to fill the greenhouse with their upbeat sound. Working with Omaha’s own Saddle Creek Records, Twinsmith has three albums under their belt and plays for enthusiastic fans both in Omaha and across the country. With their retro-80’s-pop feel, catchy lyrics, and infectious energy, their music will be the perfect backdrop for our spring party.
Great Food by Stirnella
We’re excited to welcome the team from local restaurant Stirnella to join us for the party too. The inspiration for Stirnella’s name comes from Sturnella neglecta, the scientific name of the western meadowlark – Nebraska’s state bird. The name reflects the restaurant’s creative menu and their appreciation for Nebraska’s unique landscape and ecology. See what amazing food they have planned for our Earth Day menu.
Ice Cream by Coneflower Creamery
And with a similar appreciation for the Great Plains landscape, Coneflower Creamery’s founder, Brian Langbehn, named his ice cream shop after the native wildflower that reminded him of Nebraska summers on the prairie. We love partnering with Coneflower Creamery – their ice cream is unique, made with real, local ingredients, and it’s incredibly delicious. Be sure to bring cash for both the food and the ice cream, or you’ll really be missing out.
Art Station by Two Keys Creative Studios
We’ve asked the folks at Two Keys Creative Studios to join the party too. At their studio, kids get to engage in all kinds of artistic disciplines using a range of media. At our party, artists from Two Keys will have an art station for making botanical prints – using gel printing plates, paint, rollers, and a selection of interesting foliage and other textured botanical elements.
Other Fun in the Greenhouse
If you know a thing or two about which plants are which, show off your identification skills at our Plant ID Quiz Booth and win a baby succulent to add to your houseplant collection – or start a new one. And stop by our community Earth Loom to help us create a new tapestry – made entirely of foraged and fresh botanical elements.
Come Join Us
We always have a great time with our Earth Day celebration – enjoying an afternoon in the greenhouse with you and some terrific community partners. We hope you’ll join us for another fun kick-off to spring.
