Plants are our passion. And we love sharing that passion with all of you – whether you’re already an experienced plant parent or you’re just getting started. That’s why we’re excited to present A Houseplant Event on January 27th from 1pm to 4pm. It’s a chance for us houseplant enthusiasts to celebrate some of our favorite plants and even learn more about their care. At the event, you’ll learn expert tips during our Houseplants 101 seminar, you’ll get to vote for a winner in our Houseplant Photo Contest, and you may win a prize of your own with our Plant ID Quiz. You’ll even get the opportunity to pot your own plant at our Potting Station. And also joining us for the event is Coneflower Creamery. So, grab a dish of amazing local ice cream and enjoy the day in our greenhouse among our collection of beautiful houseplants.
Houseplants 101
Keeping plants indoors is easy when you know how to provide the environment they need, and when plants are happy, they give us back so much more than we provide for them. As part of the event, Plant Care team member Woody Wood will lead a seminar starting at 1:30pm about some of our favorite houseplants and share her best tips and techniques for harmonious living with our green and leafy friends. For Woody, sharing her passion and experience with plants is one of her favorite things to do. Throughout this seminar, she’ll introduce you to some of the fascinating personalities you’ll find among our greenhouse plant collection and tell you about the care and culture they enjoy most. She’ll walk you through the variety of sizes, shapes, and growth habits that plants can have and give tips for choosing a space in your home to display them. She’ll also cover maintenance topics that might come up like repotting, trimming, training, and the occasional insect or disease issue. With Woody’s help, you’ll get to know your plants even better, learn what to expect from some of the unusual things they do, and discover more rewarding ways to share your world with them.
Houseplant Photo Contest
Share your best photos of your own houseplant collection in our photo contest taking place on Instagram. First place winner will receive a $100 gift card to our shop and be featured over on our blog. Second and third place winners will each receive a gift card too – for $50 or $25. Head to @mulhalls for all the details and enter your photo by midnight on January 21st. Final voting will take place on Instagram and here in person at the event.
Plant ID Quiz
If you’re already an expert at telling your caladiums from your calatheas, stop by our Plant ID booth and show us what you’ve got. If your plant knowledge is impressive enough to pass our quiz, you’ll receive a new little plant friend to take home and grow.
Potting Station
And, if you feel inspired to get your hands in the soil, we’ll have a potting station set up for you to pot up a new plant from our greenhouse. Once you’ve picked a plant you’d like to purchase, use our potting tables and fresh soil to transplant it into a new pot – or a pot you’ve brought from home. It’s a great way to expand your indoor plant collection without bringing home an entire bag of soil. And probably the best part is the mess will be all over our floor, not yours.
January 27th will be a fun day to spend an afternoon in the greenhouse with other houseplant enthusiasts – learning more about indoor plants and their care, showing off your plant knowledge, adding a few to your collection, and maybe grabbing an ice cream cone to enjoy too.
