Holiday Houseplants Are Here!

The holiday season is here, and that means we get to welcome a whole new collection of beautiful houseplants to the Greenhouse. Loaded with color and texture, these festive holiday favorites spread lots of spirit now and throughout the year.

Christmas Cactus

Starting at $4.99

With Christmas cactus, you can enjoy a long-lived treasure that reblooms each year. These beautiful plants are often passed down through generations of families and bloom in shades of red, pink, and creamy yellow.

Care: When your Christmas cactus is in bud – as ours are in the Greenhouse – keep it in a space with bright, indirect light, and keep the soil consistently moist but well-drained. When blooming is finished, you can start letting the soil dry slightly before the next watering. To encourage new blooms in future years, move it to a cooler spot that gets 14 hours of darkness a day for at least 6 weeks. When the buds form, move your Christmas cactus back to its usual home.

Norfolk Island Pine

3 Sizes Starting at $6.99

So, maybe it’s not a true pine, but this South Pacific native brings a beautiful evergreen style to your houseplant collection just in time for the holidays.

Care: To keep your Norfolk Island pine happiest through the holidays and beyond, set it in bright, indirect light away from drafts and furnace vents. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry to the touch and be sure to empty the drain tray. And if your plant starts to reach toward the light, rotate the pot occasionally to encourage even growth.

Cyclamen

3 Sizes Starting at $4.49

Cyclamen’s charming and colorful flowers float like butterflies above ruffled, patterned foliage that’s just as pretty.

Care: These beauties love bright, indirect light away from warm or cold drafts. Water when the soil surface feels dry and avoid watering the crown, which can rot when it’s wet. To avoid this outcome, consider watering your cyclamen from below.

Herb Cones

Starting at $14.99

Fragrant and adorable, rosemary and lavender topiaries bring holiday cheer to your home – plus soothing scents and a little flavor to your favorite recipes.

Care: These plants thrive in bright, indirect light with the chance to dry out just a bit before the next watering. Prune them as needed to maintain that perfect Christmas tree shapeIn the spring, both rosemary and lavender thrive outdoors once nighttime temperatures stay above fifty degrees.

Before You Go

Holiday houseplants may arrive just in time to brighten our homes in the winter months, but that doesn’t mean they can tolerate the seasonal chill in the air. Whether you find a favorite for yourself or give one away to a plant-loving friend on your gift list, be sure to have our team wrap your plant in a protective paper sleeve for the trip home. We can add a decorative foil pot cover if you like too. And if you have any questions about their care, just ask. We’re always happy to help.
