Celebrating The Nature Conservancy in Nebraska!

The Nature Conservancy is on a mission to protect Nebraska’s natural resources – today, and for the next generation.

Now when you round up your purchase at Mulhall’s Garden + Home – as a donation to The Nature Conservancy in Nebraska – you join in support of Nebraska’s unparalleled natural wonders. Wonders that include one of the world’s premier natural spectacles – the annual spring migration of sandhill cranes, the critically endangered whooping cranes, and other migratory birds through the Central Platte River ecosystem.

With more than half a million birds funneling their migration to an incredibly narrow 80-mile stretch along the Platte River each spring, every mile of this unique ecosystem counts. Through research, habitat restoration, and cooperation with area partners, The Nature Conservancy works tirelessly to protect this critical riparian ecosystem. Their work includes maintaining river water levels, fighting back against invasive plant species, and learning more about the vital plants, insects, and other creatures that both create and depend on this special environment.

In addition to their work on the Platte River, The Nature Conservancy manages other preserves throughout Nebraska, provides education about climate solutions, helps farmers adopt more sustainable agricultural practices, and influences policies for change.

If you’ve visited the Sandhills of Nebraska, you know the unrivaled beauty of this truly unique ecoregion. Miles upon miles of grasslands cover the largest sand dune formations in the Western Hemisphere, creating one of the most extensive grass-stabilized dune regions in the world.

There, following Nebraska’s scenic Niobrara River, lies one of the most substantial nature preserves owned and managed by The Nature Conservancy in the United States. With a treasure of iconic plants and wildlife, the Niobrara Valley Preserve is home to prairie dogs, pronghorn antelope, and more than 1,300 wild bison.

You Can Be a Part of This

Preserving native prairie. Conducting research about conservation and climate change. Sharing sustainable practices with landowners. These are just some of the efforts taking place in our state, many of them championed by The Nature Conservancy and supported with their Platte River Prairies Campaign, a $15,000,000 mission to protect and build habitat, support research, and cultivate an understanding of what these places mean to our current and future wellbeing.

Join us in supporting the cause by rounding up your purchase at Mulhall’s Garden + Home!
