As a fellow garden and plant enthusiast, Plant Care Team Member Woody Wood understands what we’re all going through. Fall is approaching, and those of us who love our gardens know the time is coming when summer’s flowers and vegetable gardens will be a memory. But, Woody wants you to know it’s never too early to plan for more flowers. Even as far ahead as next spring. In fact, now is a good time to start, and that’s what planting fall bulbs is all about.
Planting fall bulbs is pretty easy, but there are lots of different types of bulbs to choose from and so many ways to get creative with them in the landscape. So to help you navigate some of those decisions, Woody will present Fall Bulbs, the next seminar in our Grower’s Guide series, on Saturday, September 23rd at 10am. In this seminar, Woody will talk about the unique traits of the different bulb types, including our favorite tulips, hyacinths, and daffodils. She’ll introduce you to some interesting characters you may not know, like snowdrops, scilla, and fritillaria. She’ll share landscape design ideas that incorporate the variety of heights, colors, and bloom times you’ll find among the bulb types. She’ll also explain why it’s important to wait for the ideal soil temperature before planting fall bulbs and how deep to plant each type.
It does seem early to be talking about next spring. And delayed gratification can be tough. But, when those first colorful tulips appear in your yard after a long, cold winter, you (and your admiring neighbors) will be glad you planned ahead.
