Cacti and succulents come in hundreds of forms, love dry soil, bloom on weird schedules, and sometimes they poke – all reasons we find them endlessly fascinating! If you agree – or you want to discover why so many people do – join us on Saturday, June 30th, from 9am to 4pm, for The Cactus and Succulent Show. With expert growers to talk to, new plants to ogle, a BYO plant contest, and great food to enjoy too, it’s going to be a fun day.
Expand Your Collection (or Start a New One)
Get ready to be amazed. Specialty cacti and succulent growers, Chaos on Coyote Trail and Crump Greenhouse, will be here from 9am to 4pm with a wide selection of strange and unusual plants to take home – including some new examples we don’t often see. It’s a great opportunity to add a few exotic or rare varieties to your collection – maybe some your friends won’t have – and get advice about their care and behavior straight from the experts who know them best.
Learn from Rita
We know cacti and succulents are strange – they use water, flower, and grow in completely different ways than other plants. If you’re new to their world, that can be a bit intimidating at first, and that’s why we’re happy to welcome expert cactus and succulent grower – and our good friend – Rita Auer from Crump Greenhouse. In a seminar at 11am, Rita will share the knowledge and secrets of success she’s gained from years of growing all kinds of cacti and succulents. She’ll fill you in on the basics of successful cacti and succulent care including light and water requirements, feeding, soil, and repotting. She’ll also cover more advanced topics – like propagating different varieties. Whether you’re just starting out with your first cactus or you already have lots of experience, there’s always something new to learn from Rita.
Show Your Plant + Win a Prize
Do you have an especially interesting cactus or succulent that you’d love to share with other enthusiasts – and win a prize too? If you do, select the best (or maybe the most bizarre) example from your collection and enter it in our plant show for the chance to win a special edition event t-shirt and one of three Mulhall’s gift cards of up to $100! Just register your favorite plant between 9am and 10am – then enjoy admiring the other entries in our friendly contest.
Enjoy Tacos + Ice Cream
Along with your enthusiasm for unusual plants, be sure to bring your appetite too. From 11am to 2pm, Taqueria la Fogata will be here in the greenhouse serving up fresh tacos and quesadillas from their mobile taco cart. And cool off with a scoop of refreshing handmade ice cream – featuring fresh, locally sourced ingredients – from Coneflower Creamery. Both are cash-only, so be sure to bring some along – we wouldn’t want you to miss out!
Something for Everyone
Whether you’re already a cacti and succulent enthusiast or you’re eager to try something new – or maybe you just love tacos and ice cream – The Cactus and Succulent Show will have something for everyone to enjoy. We hope you’ll join us for a fun day celebrating this strange group of plants and the people who love them.
